  • Are swim caps compulsory?

Swim caps are not compulsory at South Coast Squids, but they are highly encouraged for all swimmers!

A well-fitted swim cap can help keep swimmers warmer in the water, as it helps reduce heat loss through the head. They also keep hair neatly away from the eyes and face, reducing distractions and helping swimmers stay focused on their skills and instruction.

Swim caps also support good water hygiene by helping to keep loose hair contained in the pool.

While they’re optional, we strongly recommend a swim cap as part of your little squid’s swim gear!

  • How often are students assessed?

Students are assessed on a regular, ongoing basis throughout the term.

We have a structured assessment schedule that takes place in Weeks 3 and 8 of every term across the swim school. During these periods, instructors formally review each swimmer’s progress against our skill framework.

Personalised feedback is then entered directly into the app for parents and students to view.

We also use a star chart progression system, which clearly tracks skill development and provides consistent, easy-to-understand feedback on each swimmer’s progress.

  • How does payment work?

To keep things simple and secure, South Coast Squids is a card-only swim school and we do not accept cash payments. Families can choose to pay via convenient fortnightly direct debit or pay for the full term upfront by close of business on Friday of Week 1 each term. We aim to proudly accept Sports Vouchers from 2027 onwards. More information on how to redeem your voucher with South Coast Squids will be available soon!

  • Can I enrol fortnightly or have a flexible lesson schedule?

We understand that some families, particularly those with shared-care or split-family arrangements, need a little more flexibility with their swimming schedule. While we’re unfortunately unable to offer fortnightly or alternating-week ongoing enrolments, our Punch Pass system provides a flexible alternative.

Our 10-visit Punch Passes are valid for 6 months, allowing you to book as many or as few sessions as you need each week, without committing to a regular weekly time. Punch Passes are available for Aqua Fitness, Inklets, Transition, Squids Learn to Swim, Squads, Aqua Playgroup and Lap Swimming.

Punch Passes are priced slightly higher than ongoing enrolments to reflect the added flexibility they provide and are a great option for families whose schedules change from week to week.

  • Do you offer a free trial lesson?

We don’t offer free trial lessons because we genuinely believe South Coast Squids offers exceptional value for money. Instead, we offer something we think is even better — a money-back guarantee!

We want you to have the chance to experience our lessons properly, rather than making a decision based on just one session. Give us at least two lessons to get to know your instructor, settle into the environment and see what we’re all about.

If, after two lessons, you decide we’re not the right fit for your family, simply let us know. We’ll refund the cost of both lessons, no questions asked, and waive our usual notice period so you can cease lessons immediately.

We’re confident that once you experience the South Coast Squids difference, you’ll want to stay in our pod!
