Late Starter

Welcome to Squids Late Starters — a supportive Learn to Swim pathway designed for older beginners and developing swimmers. Whether your child is new to swimming or still building confidence, each level is structured to meet them where they’re at and

progress them step-by-step toward safe, capable, and independent swimming

in the water.

Scuba Starters

7 - 11 Years

Scuba Starters is a specialist program for children aged 7–10 years who are new to swimming or need to build confidence before joining our mainstream Learn to Swim classes.

We understand that older beginners often feel uncomfortable learning alongside much younger children, so this program provides an age-appropriate environment where swimmers can develop skills, confidence and friendships with children their own age.

Lessons focus on floating, breathing, propulsion and water safety, gradually building towards recognisable freestyle and backstroke skills. Swimmers also learn important survival skills such as treading water and underwater confidence.

The goal of Scuba Starters is to create capable, confident swimmers who can comfortably transition into our mainstream Learn to Swim pathway.

Teen Beginner & Intermediate

12 - 16 Years

Teen Beginner is designed specifically for teenagers who are learning to swim later than their peers. Whether they've never had lessons before or simply need to rebuild confidence, this program provides a welcoming and judgement-free environment.

Lessons focus on water confidence, floating, breathing and survival skills while progressing at a pace that suits each swimmer. Small class sizes and age-appropriate teaching help teenagers develop confidence without feeling overwhelmed.

Teen Intermediate is designed for teenagers who already feel comfortable in the water and are ready to become capable, independent swimmers.

This level focuses on developing recognisable freestyle and backstroke, improving endurance, and strengthening essential water safety skills. Swimmers learn how to confidently manage themselves in deeper water and build the stamina needed for recreational swimming and fitness.

By the end of the program, swimmers work towards swimming a full lap of the pool in two different strokes and completing multiple laps using survival swimming techniques.
